Chin Augmentation

A disproportionately small or “weak” chin can have a significant effect on one’s entire facial appearance. By using a chin implant to supplement natural bone structure, our board-certified plastic surgeon—Dr. Louis P. Known as a chin augmentation, this procedure can also help lessen the extent of age-related tissue sagging by providing additional support for neck musculature and skin suspended from the jaw. At our practice, chin augmentation is often combined with other facial treatments, such as facelift surgery or rhinoplasty, for an even greater degree of enhancement and improved harmony among facial features.

Customizing Chin Augmentation to Meet Your Needs & Desires

Chin implants are available in several different sizes and shapes. Dr. Bucky will discuss all of your options with you during the consultation process to determine the implant that is most appropriate for your needs. The actual procedure can be conducted by itself or in conjunction with another surgical or non-surgical treatment should you desire a more comprehensive enhancement. Based on your personal goals and expectations, Dr. Bucky will work with you to custom-tailor an approach that effectively achieves the aesthetic result you desire.

The Chin Augmentation Procedure

To perform chin augmentation, Dr. Bucky will make a small incision either inside the mouth or discreetly in a crease below the chin. He will then carefully insert a silicone elastomer implant through the opening and position it for an ideal aesthetic outcome. Once the implant is secured in place and an optimal result is achieved, Dr. Bucky will close the incision via tiny sutures. For most patients, chin augmentation is performed under general anesthesia and typically takes about one to two hours to complete, though this timeframe may vary if other treatments are being administered at the same time.

Recovery

Dr. Bucky typically performs surgical procedures at Pennsylvania Hospital and Tuttleman Surgery Center alongside a Board Certified Anesthesiologist and a Board Certified Nurse Anesthetist. Following your surgery, Dr. Bucky’s extensive post-operative care program allows our patients to recover more rapidly, as they are provided with custom-tailored pre-operative vitamin regimens, nursing, and post-operative protocols.
