BOTOX® Cosmetic

Botox at one practice may not be the same as Botox at another practice. There are 100 units of Botox in every vial. In order to inject Botox, it must be prepared in a liquid form. This is done by adding saline to the Botox vial. The more saline that is added to the original Botox vial, the more diluted the new injectable solution becomes. Practices can determine how “dilute” they want to make the Botox for injection. Therefore, it is not the number of syringes of Botox or volume that matters; it is the number of units that is injected. The American Society of Plastic Surgery (ASPS) has a recommended dilution, as does Allergan, the makers of Botox. Many practices dilute beyond that recommendation. You may not be receiving the optimal units for best effects. These same practices may be offering “bargain” prices. However, you may be not comparing apples to apples – or specifically Botox to Botox. Therefore, it is important to ask how many units you are receiving, and at what dilution.
Historically, we have always stayed within the ASPS and Allergan’s guidelines of 2.5 cc saline/vial. Currently, we have been injecting with a much more concentrated Botox dilution. We dilute our vials with only 1.0 cc of saline. Patients at our practice now receive 2.5 times more units of Botox per cc. Patients could potentially receive over four times the strength of other practices dilution methods.
Muscle movement and age actually cause the lines that appear between your brows (glabellar lines), along your forehead and around your eyes (crows feet). Your facial muscles contract under your skin, causing a folding of the overlying skin. This results in unattractive frown lines, crows feet, and forehead lines. These lines may make you seem angry, worried and aged beyond our years.
BOTOX® Cosmetic is the only FDA-approved treatment for the temporary reduction of moderate to severe frown lines between the brows, forehead lines and “crow’s feet” around the eyes. Botox is a purified protein produced by the Clostridium botulinum bacterium, which reduces the activity of your muscles that cause those lines to form over time. Spend ten minutes with Dr. Bucky. He’ll make a few tiny injections, and within days there’s a noticeable improvement. You don’t even need to worry about recovery or downtime. In addition, the higher concentration of Botox used at Dr. Bucky’s office causes less swelling, and less bruising. You can even receive a Botox treatment on your lunch break. Your results will last up to four months.
