Philadelphia Plastic Surgeon – Dr. Bucky
Louis P. Bucky, MD, FACS, is an Associate Professor of Surgery within the Division of Plastic Surgery at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine.
Dr. Bucky has superior training and education, having received his degree from Harvard Medical School, before completing residencies in both general and plastic surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, MA. He pursued fellowship training in breast cancer reconstruction at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City and craniofacial surgery at Miami Children’s Hospital. During his fellowships in New York City and Miami, he pursued advanced training in cosmetic surgery. He has been awarded top regional and national honors in plastic surgery for his work in cosmetic and reconstructive surgery.
Dr. Bucky has an extensive body of experience and is a leader in the plastic surgery medical field. He is Board Certified in Plastic Surgery by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, a society dedicated to surgical skill and ethical conduct. He is a member of several distinguished regional and national societies, including the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, the Northeastern Society of Plastic Surgeons, and the American Association of Plastic Surgeons. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Bucky is past chairman of the Perspectives and Advancements of Plastic Surgery Symposium, a forum sponsored by the Plastic Surgery Education Foundation. He chaired the 2007 workshop that focused on advances in lower lid blepharoplasty and the 2008 workshop that focused on breast augmentation and breast lift surgery. In 2007, he served as President of the Northeastern Society of Plastic Surgeons. Dr. Bucky is also a member of the Allergan Breast Aesthetics Executive Council, an elite advisory panel of only ten internationally recognized leaders in breast surgery who develop principles to enhance the safety and results of breast augmentation and reconstruction procedures.
While Dr. Bucky’s education, residencies, fellowships, and certifications attest to his knowledge and training, his reputation is based upon his outstanding surgical skill and patient care. He performs over 1,000 cosmetic facial, breast, body, and reconstructive surgery procedures each year. Dr. Bucky is frequently an invited lecturer at national and international symposia on cosmetic and reconstructive surgery. He has extensively researched facial aging and is developing techniques that enhance natural appearances after cosmetic surgery. Dr. Bucky’s practice is enriched by teaching and research. He has received top honors for his research efforts in fat transplantation, melanoma, and breast reconstruction. Recently, the National Cosmetic Network filmed Dr. Bucky performing a live surgical procedure in an effort to educate other physicians about his techniques. Dr. Bucky has co-authored over 100 research publications and abstracts in the industry’s premier scientific journals, including Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and Annals of Plastic Surgery. His clinical research work has been featured in Family Circle, Redbook, Good Morning America, CNN, Plastic Surgery News, and MAMM Magazine. Dr. Bucky is regularly recognized for his clinical expertise. For eleven consecutive years, he has been named Plastic Surgery’s “Top Doc” in Philadelphia Magazine. For the past ten years, he has been included in the prestigious Castle Connolly publication, a resource for “America’s Top Doctors” for cosmetic and reconstructive surgery.
Dr. Bucky practices primarily at Pennsylvania Hospital and has privileges at Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and Children’s Hospital of Pennsylvania.
