The vast majority of patients having breast augmentation by Dr. Bucky do not take any narcotics postoperatively. Who is a Good Candidate for Breast Augmentation?

The best candidates for breast augmentation performed by Dr. Bucky are women who desire to look better in a bathing suit, wear various types of clothing comfortably, and look and feel more confident naked. Dr. Bucky utilizes three dimensional planning which allows him to select the right implant that fits your breast and chest. He has experience with a wide variety of implant styles, shapes and profiles.

Additionally, there are a large group of women who’ve lost the volume to their breast after pregnancy and breast-feeding. These patients are ideal patients for breast augmentation to restore their volume. Oftentimes a breast lift may be required to restore the ideal shape. Preparing For Breast Augmentation

Prior to your scheduled breast augmentation surgery, you will be provided with detailed pre-operative instructions. Furthermore, a pre-operative consultation with one of our highly trained clinical team members will be arranged to review your medical history, confirm your implant selection, and take pre-operative photographs. You will also receive vitamins to take leading up to and after your surgery. In preparation for your breast augmentation procedure, you may be advised to make adjustments to your current medication regimen. It is important to note that patients over the age of 40 are encouraged to obtain a mammogram taken within the past year for their safety. Additionally, it is essential to arrange for a reliable friend or family member to transport you to and from your surgery and to remain with you for at least 24 hours following your procedure.²

The Breast Augmentation Procedure

Your outpatient breast augmentation procedure generally takes less than one hour in the operating room and will be performed under general anesthesia administered by a board-certified anesthesiologist or board-certified nurse anesthetist at Vincera Surgery Center or Tuttleman Surgery Center. Dr. Bucky utilizes a gentle “no touch” technique that results in a rapid recovery that typically requires no use of narcotics and a return to normal activities in 48 hours.

Does breast augmentation have any risks?

Breast augmentation is considered safe when performed by a board-certified plastic surgeon who is experienced in all types of breast surgery. However, like all surgical procedures, breast augmentation does have some risk of complications which include anesthesia risks, changes in sensation, seroma, infection, capsular contracture, hematoma, implant rupture, and poor scarring.³

Do breast implants cause breast cancer?

Breast implants do not cause cancer, however, the FDA has identified a possible increased risk between breast implants and anaplastic large cell lymphoma, or ALCL in women with textured breast implants.⁴

Can I breastfeed after breast augmentation?

When performed by an experienced plastic surgeon, both subglandular (implants placed above the chest muscles) and submuscular breast augmentation procedures (implants placed below the pectoral muscle) should not interfere with the ability to breastfeed.⁵ However, the ability to breastfeed is associated with many factors not associated with breast implant surgery.
