Summer has a way of revealing everything our skin has been holding onto. Sun exposure, heat, humidity, travel, and lighter makeup routines can suddenly make discoloration, redness, uneven texture, acne scarring, dullness, and fine lines feel more noticeable.
For many patients, summer skincare is not just about achieving a glow for the season. It is about protecting the skin, preventing further damage, and making thoughtful choices that support long-term skin health.
As a Registered Nurse, Licensed Aesthetician, and Advanced Skin & Laser Specialist at Bucky Plastic Surgery Washington Square, I have spent more than 25 years helping patients improve concerns such as acne scarring, pigmentation, redness, texture irregularities, sun damage, fine lines, and skin laxity. During the summer months especially, my approach is focused on achieving healthy, radiant skin in a way that is strategic, natural-looking, and seasonally appropriate.
Skin behaves differently in the summer. Brown spots often darken with UV exposure. Redness can become more reactive in the heat. Increased oil production, sweat, sunscreen, and humidity may contribute to congestion and breakouts, while travel and environmental stress can leave skin looking tired or dehydrated.
That is why I never believe in a one-size-fits-all treatment plan.
Before recommending any procedure, I want to understand your skin type, your lifestyle, your level of sun exposure, your goals, and how much downtime realistically fits your schedule. Sometimes summer is the perfect time for lighter rejuvenation and maintenance-focused treatments. Other times, the smartest plan is protecting and preparing the skin now, then transitioning into more corrective treatments in the fall or winter.
One of the most valuable tools we use during consultation is VISIA Skin Analysis. This advanced imaging system allows us to evaluate not only what is visible on the surface of the skin, but also underlying sun damage, pigmentation, redness, texture concerns, pores, and early aging changes that are not always obvious in everyday lighting.
I love using VISIA because it gives us a true starting point. It helps personalize treatment recommendations and allows us to objectively track progress over time. As your skin improves through treatment, skincare, and better sun protection habits, we can continue refining your plan based on what your skin actually needs.
My passion for aesthetics started with my own skin journey. I struggled with acne and acne scarring as a teenager and young adult, so I understand firsthand how emotional skin concerns can feel.
That experience ultimately led me into aesthetics, where I first trained at the Jean Madeline Aveda Institute before continuing my education as a Registered Nurse. Over the past 25 years, I have worked in respected aesthetic practices in Philadelphia, New York, and Charlotte, while pursuing advanced training in laser, light, and energy-based technologies.
Today, my philosophy is simple: beautiful skin should still look like your skin.
The goal is never to make someone look overdone or overly treated. My focus is helping patients achieve skin that looks healthier, smoother, brighter, and more refreshed in a natural, believable way.
Summer can actually be an excellent time to focus on skin maintenance, prevention, hydration, and collagen support — as long as treatments are selected thoughtfully.
MOXI is one of my favorite treatments for summer skin rejuvenation because it offers gentle fractional resurfacing with minimal downtime. It can help improve tone, texture, early pigmentation, and overall radiance while supporting long-term skin health.
For many patients, it is the perfect “glow and maintenance” treatment.
A well-designed facial can make a significant difference in how skin functions and looks during the summer months. Customized Combo3 treatments help support exfoliation, hydration, barrier repair, and clarity while leaving the skin looking polished and refreshed without aggressive downtime.
RF Microneedling remains one of the most versatile treatments for improving acne scars, enlarged pores, fine lines, uneven texture, and overall skin quality in facial skin. By stimulating collagen production, it supports gradual, natural-looking rejuvenation and healthier skin over time.
For patients dealing with redness, sun damage, and discoloration, BBL may also be an option depending on skin type, recent sun exposure, and lifestyle factors. Proper timing and strict sun protection are essential with any light-based treatment during the summer months.
The goal is never to overdo treatment. It is to choose the right treatment at the right time for your skin.
Summer also tends to bring more attention to concerns involving the body — particularly mild skin laxity, crepey texture, and areas that no longer feel as firm as they once did.
Morpheus8 Body combines radiofrequency technology with microneedling to support collagen remodeling and improve skin quality in areas such as the abdomen, arms, thighs, and knees.
As with facial rejuvenation, I always consider sun exposure, travel plans, skin type, and recovery time before recommending treatment during the summer season.
The reality is that even the best treatments cannot outperform poor sun protection.
Daily broad-spectrum sunscreen, hats, sunglasses, shade, and consistent reapplication are essential for preventing pigmentation, collagen loss, redness, and premature aging. UV exposure happens during everyday life — not just at the beach.
I also encourage patients to keep their summer skincare routines balanced and supportive rather than overly aggressive. Antioxidants, gentle cleansing, hydration, and barrier-supportive products often create healthier results than over-exfoliating or stripping the skin.
Healthy summer skin should look radiant and rested — not irritated.
RF Microneedling helps improve acne scars, uneven texture, enlarged pores, fine lines, and overall skin quality by stimulating the skin’s natural collagen production and renewal process.
That depends on the type and severity of scarring, your skin type, and the season. Treatment options may include RF microneedling, fractional laser resurfacing, MOXI, HALO, chemical peels, or a customized combination approach.
Absolutely. My goal is always healthy, refreshed skin that still looks like you — never overdone.
A personalized consultation is the best place to start. We evaluate your skin, discuss your concerns and goals, review your lifestyle and downtime preferences, and create a plan tailored specifically to you.
