James M. Smartt Jr., M.D. is board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and joins Bucky Plastic Surgery as Associate Surgeon with a specialized passion for body contouring – including a focus on new minimally invasive treatments – as well as rhinoplasty and otoplasty, as a result of his extensive work with adolescents with cleft palates.
A Philadelphia native, Dr. Smartt received his undergraduate degree from the University of Chicago, with honors, and his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania. It is at this prestigious institution where he also completed his plastic surgery residency, much of which included a mentorship by Dr. Bucky. In addition to his extensive aesthetic training with Dr. Bucky, Dr. Smartt performed fellowships in pediatric and craniofacial surgery at the University of Washington and Seattle Children’s Hospital, and also served as faculty members there and at the University of Texas Southwestern – the number one ranking training program in plastic surgery. Dr. Smartt has been published internationally for articles both in reconstructive and aesthetic surgery and is the recipient of a multitude of prestigious awards and research grants, representing his unwavering commitment to advancing patient care and technologies.
